In the context of cryptocurrencies a wallet is a seed phrase that can derive private keys and deposit addresses on which you can receive and send digital assets. Colloquially, the term ‘wallet’ refers to the user interface to manages the assets. The wallet user interface takes the form of a mobile application, a browser extension, or desktop software.

Note that your funds (including NFTs) are always on their respective networks and not stored in these user interfaces or in hardware wallet devices themselves.

A DeFi wallet allows users to interact with decentralized applications and is most commonly used as a browser extension such as XDEFI.

Unlike centralized exchanges, non-custodial wallets offer you full control over your seed phrase, private keys and assets (including NFTs). Forgetting or losing your seed phrase and private keys means losing access to your deposit addresses and the funds you hold on them, so make sure to back them up.

We recommend offline storage on at least two devices, one of which has FLASH memory. Encrypting the digital device holding this information is a good practice as long as you remember your decryption password.
